Wood is currently looking for a Principal Piping Designer to join our team in Basra, Iraq on 6 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation. This is a full-time onsite position in Basra, Iraq with travel requirement.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Piping Designer to join our team in Basra, Iraq on 6 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation.

Wood has been awarded a general engineering contract to support an international client operator to deliver a portfolio of onshore capital projects by provision of engineering and project management services (including EPC contract management), as well as supply chain, construction and commissioning support from Wood Iraq and UAE offices.

Projects include both greenfield and brownfield modification projects and integrating low-carbon solutions to support our client's energy transition and emissions reduction goals.

Job objective

Wood is currently looking for a Principal Piping Designer to join our team in Basra, Iraq on 6 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation.

Responsibilities

• Must have hands-on experience in preparation of general arrangement drawings, isometrics, material take-offs, etc. for EPC and FEED projects
• Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Interdisciplinary check of all civil, structural, electrical and instrumentation drawings
• Produce 2D drawings in AutoCAD
• Experience of 3D modelling using PDS will be an added advantage
• To assist in the coordination of all activities related to the discipline
• Preparation of pipeline route studies, desktop studies based on survey inputs, overall route maps, key plans, alignment sheets, station approach drawings, pipeline typical construction drawings, etc. in accordance with project specifications, international codes and standards will be an added advantage
• Knowledge in specification and design basis
• Be responsible for assessing effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems, personal and team performance
• Maintain the required technical quality of work
• Identify scope and schedule changes in accordance with the change control process
• Provide technical assistance to discipline assigned personnel as required
• Ensure, as far as practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with the agreed schedule
• Capable of working in brownfield scopes with understanding of other discipline interfaces

Expected:

• Diploma or HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or relevant subject)
• Minimum of 10 years relevant experience
• Enjoys being involved in the practical application of complex theoretical principles
