JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE
The Lead Oracle Database Administrator will spearhead our efforts in managing and optimizing our Oracle database systems. This position requires a strategic thinker who can lead a team, ensure database performance, and partner with various departments to support technical and business objectives.
Managing and leading the administration of databases in cloud environments, involving tasks like designing, deploying, and securing cloud-native databases on platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP. The role requires strong technical expertise in both traditional and modern databases, advanced skills in automation, high availability, disaster recovery, and cross-functional collaboration with development and DevOps teams.
Key responsibilities:
•Database administration: Manage, support, and administer databases, including installation, patching, performance tuning, and upgrades.
•Cloud architecture and migration: Design, build, and deploy new cloud-native databases, and lead the migration of on-premises databases to cloud platforms.
•High availability and disaster recovery: Implement and validate high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) configurations to ensure business continuity.
•Performance and optimization: Monitor and tune database performance, analyze query performance, and optimize database schemas and queries.
•Automation: Develop and implement infrastructure-as-code solutions using tools like Terraform and Ansible to automate database provisioning and management.
•Security: Ensure data integrity and security by managing access control, implementing encryption, and performing audits, often in collaboration with security teams.
•Collaboration and leadership: Work with cross-functional teams (e.g., development, DevOps, application support) to meet business and technical requirements. Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior DBAs.
•Troubleshooting: Lead the response to incidents, perform root cause analysis, and provide 24/7 on-call support for critical systems.
•Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, policies, and procedures.
•Capacity planning: Participate in long-term capacity planning and resource optimization efforts.
Requirements:
Required skills and experience:•Overall 15+ years experience
•Proven experience in leading database administration, especially with a focus on cloud-based environments.
Expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and their managed database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
•Strong knowledge of specific databases like SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or others, both on-premises and in the cloud.
•Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
•Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and database monitoring tools.
•Deep understanding of HA/DR technologies and implementation strategies.
•Experience with security best practices, including encryption, access control, and compliance.
•Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
•Experience with migration strategies for moving databases from on-premises to the cloud.
Education: Bachelor in IT or relevant.
