JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE
Role overview:
The protection engineer will be responsible for developing, validating, and supervising the implementation of protection systems for high-voltage electrical networks. This role ensures the integrity, reliability, and safety of power system operations through effective relay coordination, testing, and fault analysis.
Key responsibilities:
Develop and validate protection philosophies, relay settings, and trip logic schemes for HV substations and transmission systems.
Supervise the testing and commissioning of numerical relays, ensuring correct operation of protection schemes.
Review protection coordination studies, contractor submissions, and interface designs to ensure compliance with project and utility standards.
Support fault analysis, root cause investigations, and troubleshooting of protection-related issues during commissioning and operation.
Ensure alignment with IEC 60255, IEC 61850, and other relevant international standards.
Collaborate with design, testing, and commissioning teams to ensure seamless integration of protection systems.
Requirements:
Bacheloru2019s degree in electrical or power systems engineering.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in protection system design, testing, and commissioning.
Strong knowledge of:
Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
Alternate entry-level requirement (for junior roles):
Diploma or bacheloru2019s degree in electrical engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in protection system inspection and testing.
Familiarity with numerical relay testing and basic protection schemes.
